Altered Book Art Journaling
Saturdays: February 6, 13 and 20th
10:00-11:30 am CT — online class hosted by Wet Paint
If you’ve wanted to try art journaling or want to develop a more consistent practice but are intimidated by the blank white page of sketchbooks or journals, try repurposing an old book for your next art journal project! Vintage books, novels, cookbooks and children’s books are a great alternative for an art journal because they provide a variety of paper options, inspiring graphics and illustrations, and come in an array of shapes and sizes. We’ll begin by selecting a book to use, then we’ll learn some simple and fun ways to breathe new life into the book and fill the pages with our own artwork.
Introduction to Art Journaling
Saturday, March 20, 2021
1:00-3:00pm — online class hosted by Wet Paint
An art (or visual) journal is a place to collect ideas, record memories and thoughts, experiment with supplies and begin brainstorming for projects. It is a safe place to express ourselves and just have fun and play. These journals can begin as sketchbooks, notebooks or even a vintage book and then be filled with paint, collages, sketches and words. The possibilities for art journaling are endless and can be a bit overwhelming, but you really only need a few basic supplies to get started.
In this class, we’ll discuss how to choose your journal, ways to prepare your pages and go over options for supplies to use. We’ll also discuss themes or topics you can use for your books and how to make each book uniquely your own. There will be in class time to work and ask questions.
