Developing a Daily Creative Habit

Having a daily art practice not only gives us the opportunity to develop our creative skills and explore new materials and techniques, but also builds our awareness to the world around us and opens our eyes to inspiration that surrounds us everywhere we go. Many of us dream of having a daily art practice, but due to busy schedules and multiple responsibilities, don’t believe it’s possible. In this class, we will discuss simple ways to free up time so that you can give yourself permission to explore your creative side and dedicate more of your life to the activities that make your heart sing. Simply bring a sketchbook or notebook and pen/pencil to the first night of class and all other materials will be provided. (The teacher works in collage/mixed-media/writing, but this class is open to all artistic fields and the practices are customizable to fit your creative passions.) 2 hrs per week.

Wednesdays, 05/25, 06/01,06/08, 06/15
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Simple Art Journal Backgrounds

Getting started on a new art journal page can sometimes feel like a daunting task, especially when we don’t have much time to create. But when pages in our journals have been prepped with background designs and colors, it can be easier to dive in and keep working when we have time. We’ll learn some easy ways to start your pages by adding color with paint and making background designs using stamped patterns, stencils and Gelli plates. Once the page has been prepped, you can go back and add writing, collage, or sketches. You will only need to bring a journal or sketchbook; all other supplies will be provided.

Saturday, June 4th
9:30am – 12:30pm
Non-member/Member: $50/$45 (includes supplies)

Altered Book Art Journaling

Sketchbooks and journals are great for art journaling, but the blank white page can also be intimidating.  Vintage books, novels, cookbooks and children’s books can also be used for art journaling and provide a variety of paper options, inspiring graphics and illustrations, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We’ll begin by selecting a book to use, then we’ll learn some simple ways to begin filling the pages with our own artwork.

Saturday, June 18th
9:30am – 12:30pm
Non-member/Member: $50/$45 (includes supplies)
