Each month, Briana Goetzen (of Orange Spiral Arts and my co-facilitator at the Minnesota Visual Journal Collective) and I post the meeting topic and supply list to the group’s Facebook page for that month’s meeting. However, for some unknown reason, our group has been disabled and we no longer have access to the posts or members. I am hoping that by posting here I will be able to reach a few members and we’ll be able to share information via this page until either our group has been restored or Briana and I are able to figure out an alternative for sharing meeting information.
If you are in the Twin Cities and are unfamiliar with the MN Visual Journal Collective, let me introduce the group! We are a group of artists from all disciplines and all ability levels that meet each month at Wet Paint in St. Paul, MN. Briana and I are the co-facilitators for the group and take turns leading each meeting, during which we introduce that month’s topic, do a demo and provide instruction, provide time for the group to work on the lesson and then gather the group to share work at the end of the meeting. September Meeting – Round Robin Project
Monday, September 18, 2023
6:00 – 8:00pm
At Wet Paint, 1684 Grand Ave, St. Paul, MN 55105
This is one of our favorite meetings of the year! Here’s how it works: bring a book that you are willing to let other people work in. Open it to a clean spread and then we’ll begin to pass our books around the room. You will each work in every book that is passed around the room (we’ll set a timer, but we’ll only have a few minutes to work so we need to work fast). When you get your book back, the spread will be filled with artwork from everyone in the room! The photos above are from spreads in my journals created in past meetings. Here are a few more examples:

A few tips:
· Plan ahead – it’s best to have an idea of what you’d like to do before you come so you don’t spend your time trying to decide what to do and then don’t have time to work.
· Make it simple! You’ll only have a small space to work in and a very short amount of time so don’t use an idea that’s complicated or requires a lot of materials.
· Do something that dries quickly – we’ll be passing the books every few minutes and you don’t want your work to get smeared so be sure to plan for something that won’t take too long to dry.
Suggestions of supplies to bring:
- A journal or sketchbook to pass around the room (mandatory)
- Collage paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Pens/paint pens/markers/colored pencils
- Stamps
- Stickers
Meetings are free, but you must RSVP on the Wet Paint website because seating is limited. If you register, but are unable to attend, please call the store at 651-698-6431 so that they can give your spot to the next person on the waiting list.
I hope to see you Monday night! If you have any questions about the meeting topic or the group, please reach out and let me know. And hopefully the Facebook group will be restored soon!
