Relaxing Watercolor Circles
As creatives, it can be easy to get stuck in the mindset of creating art for others, but itโs important to remember the power of the artistic process for our own self-care. Using watercolors as our guide, weโll release expectations and let our creativity be free to flow. We will begin by simply creating circles and exploring color, then will continue to build onto this practice with doodling and paper cutting. This class will focus on the process rather than the product and is meant for creatives of any level.
Please bring your own supplies: a set of watercolors, a brush and a pad of watercolor or mixed-media paper. There will be some shared use supplies.

Mindful Drawing Using Barnacles, Bivalves & Geodes as Inspiration

Nature not only provides amazing inspiration for visual art, but as we dive deeper into the stories of the objects weโre drawing, sometimes we find incredible facts to inspire our lives as well. Weโll begin by exploring some fascinating facts about barnacles, bivalves and geodes. Then weโre going to spend time drawing variations of each. These drawings will be slow, mindful and relaxing and are not meant to be perfect. Weโll also work with adding color to our drawings using watercolors, markers and other water-soluble supplies. Finally, weโll talk about how to incorporate a mindful drawing practice into your everyday life for moments of calm and quiet and also how to use the stories about these amazing creatures to comfort, empower and inspire ourselves.
Supplies to bring:
- A sketchbook or pad of watercolor paper
- A drawing pen (preferably waterproof)
- Something to add color (watercolors, markers, colored pencils, or a combination of these supplies)

The Art of Noticing
Noticing is perhaps the most powerful tool in our artistic toolkit. It is also perhaps one of the hardest to employ because it requires us to slow down and pay attention. In a world where our attention is a valuable commodity, there are a lot of people/places/devices fighting for it. But for three hours, we are going to say NO to all these distractions, learn how to slow down, and find ways to both record the interesting things we discover through this process, but also how to use them in our art and creative process. Weโll pull inspiration from the natural world, overlooked treasures we see every day and some other sources we may have never considered.
Please bring a sketchbook or art journal, a drawing pen and something to add color (watercolors, markers, and/or colored pencils) to class. Some shared supplies will be available for use in class.

Altered Book Art Journaling
Sketchbooks and journals are great for art journaling, but the blank white page can also be intimidating. Vintage books, novels, cookbooks and childrenโs books can also be used for art journaling and provide a variety of paper options, inspiring graphics and illustrations, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Weโll begin by selecting a book to use, then weโll learn some simple ways to begin filling the pages with our own artwork.
Bring a book to alter. Some books will be available if you donโt have one.

Have you heard of gelli plates, but arenโt sure of how to use them? Or maybe youโve tried one, but need some more ideas and inspiration. Gelli plates are a fun, easy way to create an abundance of monoprints that can be used as stand-alone prints, collage fodder, book pages, and so much more!
In this introductory workshop we will begin with the gelli plate basics, including care and how to use them. Then weโll explore different materials to use on your plate, how stencils can create amazing combinations of patterns, some fun image transfer ideas and discuss ways to use and store your prints.

Watercolor & Collage Mandalas
Mandalas are a powerful artistic form used in meditation and healing practices. The word itself loosely translates to โcircle,โ a word which weโll use as a guide throughout this class to help focus on ideas, thoughts, and feelings that we continue to circle in our own lives. Weโll also work to embrace the โmessyโ part of our lives represented by loose, fluid watercolor circles for the base and layers of collaged bits of paper and fabric. The completed pieces will be packed with mesmerizing, tactile beauty as well as deep personal meaning. This practice is an opportunity to release perfection and spend time enjoying the process of creating, healing and letting go.
Please bring a sketchbook or loose sheets of watercolor paper and a set of watercolors (if you have them) to class. All other supplies (and some extra watercolors) will be available for class use.

Mixed-Media Slow Stitch
Slow stitching is an unhurried, thoughtful process that not only has a beautiful outcome, but also helps to calm our frenzied minds. Coupled with mixed media, it also allows for bold, expressive artwork either as stand-alone pieces or in our art journals. During this class, weโll explore mark-making with stitching patterns, creating collages with both paper and fabric, and play with color in a combination of paint, paper, fabric and thread. We will also discuss how to draw inspiration from the everyday world around us to add color, marks and patterns to our artwork.
Please bring a sketchbook or art journal to class and any collage/embroidery supplies you’d like to use. Shared supplies will be available for class use.

Neurographic Art

Neurographic Art is a free-flowing, organic artform that creates a calm, focused and mindful experience in our bodies and brains while crafting a beautiful and inspiring piece of abstract artwork on the page. The process allows us to slip into a meditative state and asks us let go of the idea of perfection while encouraging us to focus on the act of creating instead worrying about final piece of artwork. This class is intended to be a slow, immersive experience which provides the opportunity to press pause on stressors and spend time focusing on your own needs and well-being. Weโll begin by learning the history of neurographic art and then spend time practicing the techniques and learning ways to apply them in a variety of ways to our own lives and art practices.
Supplies to bring (some extra supplies will be available for class use):
- A sketchbook or pad of watercolor paper
- A black pen or marker (preferably waterproof)
- Something to add color (colored pencils, markers or watercolors)

Collage Play in Three Ways
Collage is a relaxing, expressive and playful art form and there are so many ways to approach creating these pieces. In this class, weโll focus on three styles of collage: patchwork, minimal and spontaneous.
- Patchwork โ weโll pull ideas from different forms of quilt and textile designs to inspire our own paper patchwork creations.
- Minimal โ sometimes we get so lost in the idea of filling a page that we forget about the beauty and power of white space. Weโll use only a few pieces of paper per collage to not only embrace white space but also tap into the inspiration of limiting our supplies.
- Spontaneous โ the idea of needing to put the perfect piece of paper in the perfect place can inhibit us from creating collages, so in this lesson, weโll learn ways to work quickly and instinctively to build organic collages in the moment. Weโll play with snippet rolls and also talk about how junk journals provide the perfect medium for spontaneous collages.
Supplies to bring:
- A sketchbook or art journal with blank pages (you can also bring a junk journal, but youโll need something with blank pages too).
- Any of your favorite collage materials
- If you have a favorite pair of scissors or adhesive, please bring those as well.
Some shared collage materials & glue sticks will be available for use in class.
